KPSN was awarded PSN Service Provider status (PSNSP) by the CESG* in December 2015 which is valid for three years. As a PSNSP, KPSN’s transit network must be CAS(T)** compliant. Like KPSN’s PSNSP status, KPSN’s CAS(T) compliancy was achieved in December 2015 and is valid for three years. This provides KPSN with the ability to provide PSN connectivity for any PSN compliant organisation. KPSN is the only Local Authority in the UK who has achieved PSN Service Provider status.
As a Public Service Network Service Provider (PSNSP), KPSN offers aggregated PSN services over its core network. This primarily provides access to GCF services at the moment but has the capability to provide access to any and all PSN Services. This infrastructure is run as a managed service by KPSN’s Supplier, DUCL, who acts as our Direct Network Service Provider (DNSP). This service is only accessible to organisations that currently have a PSN Code of Connection.
* CESG is the UK government’s national technical authority for information assurance (IA). It protects the UK by providing policy and assistance on the security of communications and electronic data, in partnership with industry and academia.
**CESG Assured Service for Telecommunications – CAS(T). CAS(T) is a certification scheme for clients providing telecommunications services. The scheme supports the government Public Service Network (PSN), which requires all telecoms services procured by public sector bodies be assured to a suitably protect information at IL2-2-4. This level is sufficient for the transmission of Unclassified and Protected data.
