Senior Finance Officer

Sam Poulton

Having attained a BSC (Hons) degree in Zoology at Liverpool University, Sam began working for KCC in 2007 as an Administration Assistant through a Temp Agency. What started off as a summer job to get her struggling bank balance into a healthier position became permanent employment within six months. It was during her time in this role that she developed her passion for the financial world.

From this role she moved into the position of a Client Financial Affairs Officer. This involved taking complete responsibility for the financial management of approximately 200 vulnerable individuals, liaising with the DWP, Office of the Public Guardian, Private Financial Institutions, Banks, Building Societies, Borough Councils, Housing Associations and various care providers. While in this post she gained her AAT qualification.

Following this Sam moved into a Budget Monitoring role within KCC’s Revenue Finance team and had the pleasure of working collaboratively with Education, Early Years, Social Care Operational Services and ICT colleagues whilst supporting a total expenditure budget of over £64m. During this time she began studying for her ACCA qualification, completed a Future Leaders training programme, and provided one-to-one mentoring and supervision to an accountancy trainee whilst on a one year placement with her team.

Sam has recently joined the KPSN Team as their Senior Finance Officer. This role involves budget monitoring, challenge and validation of suppliers’ charges and the production of regular statements to the partners. She is looking forward to developing her skills, meeting partners and helping support the KPSN service as it continues to grow.
