Success for Kent Public Service Network

Aug 17, 2009

KPSN is responsible for developing the ICT infrastructure for local authorities, schools, libraries, hospital based Social Services and others.  By having a shared approach, costs of procurement are substantially reduced and partners benefit from a network with greater capacity and resilience than they currently have.  The network is also better suited to emerging technologies and collaborative working, whilst increasing the security of personal data.  As KPSN continues to develop, so more organisations and residents will benefit, not least because Kent’s broadband ‘black holes’ will become a thing of the past.

The e-Government National Awards 2008 highlight the UK's most effective public services which improve citizen and business transaction with councils, central government departments and other public sector organisations.  588 nominations were received for the Awards with KPSN chosen as one of seven finalists in the e-Government Shared Services category.
Supporting the Awards are the Government Chief Information Officer (Cabinet Office), the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives (SOLACE) and the Society of It Management (SOCITM).  The Awards are sponsored by KPMG, Directgov, O2 and Jadu.

John Suffolk, the Government's Chief Information Officer, says: “I have been very pleased to see so many high quality entries for this year’s e-Government National Awards, which highlight the many ways technology is being used to transform our public services”.

Jeff Wallbank, Manager of KPSN comments: “By being innovative and making collaboration a priority, our partners are delivering better services to Kent and Medway’s residents, businesses and visitors.  KPSN’s shortlisting in the e-Government Awards recognises the pioneering nature of Kent and Medway’s public sector.”

The winners will be announced on 20th January 2009.
